Michelle Obama and MTV Collaborate To Create A Virtual Prom

The virtual prom has been organized by Obama’s organization (When We All Vote). The mission of the organization is to increase participation in every election and close the race and age voting gap by changing the culture around voting, harnessing grassroots energy, and through strategic partnerships to reach every American. The goal for the virtual event is to heighten the spirits of students, located all over the U.S., who have suffered losing participation in their proms and graduation ceremonies in light of Covid-19. Save the date for today, May 22nd, for this on-air takeover premiering on MTV!

When We All Vote and MTV launched a 2020 Prom Challenge which was a program that would recognize and celebrate 20 high schools across the country who were able to integrate voter registration efforts in a fun and exciting way. Houston's very own , Westbury High School, qualified as one of the Top 20 winners! Mayor Sylvestor Turner will also be representing the City of Houston as a Prom-athon Chaperone due to his commitment towards uplifting students and virtual events throughout the pandemic.

From original content highlighting schools and students to prom-themed throwback movies, this virtual prom party will live stream on MTV YouTube at 9pm EST. You can also look forward to many surprise celebrity appearances along with some amazing live performances. Make sure you click the link, Prom-athon to gain more information and once again, congratulations to the Class of 2020!
